Burn Baby Burn

The question asked in this blog could be viewed differently depending on the approach taken. If I consider a world without books, where books never existed, then I don't think anyone would notice the difference. But right now, if all of our books were taken away, I think it would have a huge impact on the world. All the written and shared knowledge that we share would cease to exist. The trend that each generation's IQ level increases over the previous would probably reverse, refer to the Flynn Effect. I know I personally would miss them because I enjoy reading a good book from time to time instead of always watching a movie or TV. The last part of the blog prompt took some consideration. Although we don't actually burn books everyday, we might as well. The number of people that actually use books for entertainment or to learn from seems to decrease with each generation. It seems that we ignore the opportunities that are right in front of us to be able to better ourselves and make the world a better place to be.

    Agree, i do like reading a book from time to time, but if we never had them, how would we know! I like this blog, especially with the "Flynn Effect" link. (I got the question right!)But yes, we might as well burn them.

    I like your approach to this question, I did not think of the apsect that what we would be like if books have never existed. I think overall people's usage of books for entertainment have decreased a lot but not with educational purposes.

    Thats true, that people don't read books for entertainment as much as they used to, and I agree that peoples IQ's would probably decrease if there weren't any books.

    Many of my students admit that they don't even crack open the books they spend a significant amount of money on for their classes....doesn't this seem absurd?

    i agree that people aren't really reading books for the right reasons anymore. they don't really read for entertainment or to learn, more so because they have to...although i mostly fit into that category haha

    I agree! If we lived in a world without books then we wouldn't notice. If our books were taken away and burned now, I would be one of those who hoard all the books possible in my attic. I don't know if I'll stay and burn with them, maybe. We'll see. hahaha :D
